Helping a community initiative clearly explain its purpose and invite participation

I supported the National Newcomer Collective for Truth and Reconciliation in structuring a simple website that communicates its mission and invites participation without requiring prior familiarity with the topic.

The organization needed a clear introduction rather than a large information repository — a site that quickly explains who the collective is and how people can engage.

The challenge

The collective brings together individuals working in newcomer settlement and reconciliation efforts. Because the topic is conceptually dense, visitors needed immediate orientation:

  • What is this group?

  • Who is it for?

  • Why does it matter?

  • What can I do here?

Without this clarity, potential members might leave before understanding their relevance.

Outcome

The website functions as an introduction rather than a document archive.

Visitors can quickly:

  • understand the collective’s purpose

  • identify if they belong

  • join or contact the group
